
• Medical Care on Board Ship
(previously known as Ship Captains’ Medical Course)
This course is held regularly from September to June – additional courses may be possible by special arrangement.
This is an MCA approved course which meets the mandatory requirements for Seafarers who are designated to take charge of medical care on board ship, or for those who are seeking to gain Certificates of Competency. This intensive course is very practical covering life support, diagnostic techniques, management of a wide range of medical conditions and practical instruction in a variety of procedures such as clinical examination techniques, intramuscular injections, wound suturing and monitoring vital signs.
Standard: STCW95 A-VI/4-2
Entry requirements: Candidates must be 16 or more years of age. Candidates must have received approved or recognised training in Medical First Aid on Board Ship.
Issue of certificate: Candidates are assessed during Practical Exercises and via a Multiple Choice Examination Paper. Certificates are valid for 5 years for persons responsible on board ship for medical care and the use of medical supplies. Certificates are not time-limited for tickets of competency.

MCA reapproval October 2011 for a further 5 years.
Course fee: € 850 (€ 765 when paid more than 2 weeks in advance)
